Three musicians have perished in a grisly road accident within Homa Bay County.
The three who were identified as Charles Onunga, Erick Omwanda and Vitalis Ochieng' died when a motorbike on which they were travelling crashed a trailer that transporting sugarcane from Kisumu county.
In the incident which occurred at Nyakinyi trading center along Homa Bay – Kendu Bay road within Homa Bay Sub County, the three met the untimely death when their motorbike lost control.
This occurred after their motorbike lost control before being run over by the trailer that was coming from behind.
Eyewitnesses said Omwanda who was riding the motorbike tried to avoid a cow that was ahead of them on the road.
"Omwanda who was riding from Kendu Bay towards Homa Bay carried my brother Onunga and the other musician but he came across a cow in front. He then lost control and landed on the wheel of the trailer that was coming from behind," said Johanes Oliech.
Ochieng' and Omwanda died on the spot while Onunga died from injuries sustained.
"Health practitioners tried the much they could in attending to Onunga but the injuries were too serious. He passed on," said Oliech, who drives an ambulance which took him to hospital.
The musicians who are in their early thirties sing pop songs were on their way from Oyugis town where they went to record songs.
Homa Bay county Police Commander John Omusanga said the trailer driver was arrested and detained at Homa Bay Police Station.
He said the driver will be arraigned in court after completion of investigations regarding the incident.
"We have arrested him and he will be charged in court for causing death," said Omusanga.
The police boss told road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
"It is unfortunate that the rider was just evading a cow but he ended up on the wheel of the trailer. Let all road users be careful while using our roads to avoid these kind of deaths," said Omusanga.
The vehicle and the motorbike were taken to Homa Bay police station.
